H.E.A.R.T.S.
Homeschoolers Educating, Assisting, & Reaching-out Through Service
~ March - April  ~  Theme:  Handmade Blankets

During the months of March & April, H.E.A.R.T.S. participants are creating handmade
blankets for those in need.  You do
NOT need to know how to sew, crochet, or knit to
participate!

To Participate In This Project Please:

1)  Select a recipient.  H.E.A.R.T.S. is suggesting: Project Linus - or you may choose an
alternate recipient such as local foster children or
Warm Up America.

2)  Contact the recipient of your choice to confirm delivery details.

3)  Handcraft a blanket.
This is actually easier than it sounds - directions are at the very
bottom of this page for a fleece blanket that only requires you to cut to size - then cut and
knot and/or curl fringe.
Or visit the Project Linus site above for directions on many types of
blankets.  For Warm Up America you need only donate a crocheted or knit square
.

4)  Include a note identifying yourself as a participant in this H.E.A.R.T.S. Community
Service Effort  - for example:

"Our blanket comes with Love and Hugs from our HEARTS.
From a Family with H.E.A.R.T.S.:  Homeschoolers: Educating, Assisting, &
Reaching-out Through Service"

5)  Submit a press release (see below for prepared press release – or write your own if you
prefer) sometime during the month of March (or as near that date as possible.)  If you are
able to, it would be great to also submit a "wrap-up" press release (and pictures if possible)
after you have completed your project as well.
 - [If you compose any press releases for
any project we would be grateful if you would submit a copy to be posted to the
H.E.A.R.T.S. Website for use by other participants and/or on the “Bulletin Board" - they are
GREAT inspiration!] -
Press Releases are always optional - but encouraged and
*appreciated*!!

6) Sometime during the month of April (or as near that time as possible) deliver your blanket
(s) as arranged with your recipient.

                     Thank you for your participation!
Together we can change our world!

HOMESCHOOLERS ARE WARMING HEARTS

Homeschoolers Join HEARTS Creating Handmade Blankets

During the months of March and April local homeschoolers, as well as those across the country, will be joining H.E.A.R.T.S. to

warm the hearts of others.  H.E.A.R.T.S. (Homeschoolers: Educating,Assisting, & Reaching-out Through Service) will be

coordinating the efforts of local chapters as well as individuals and participating families throughout America.  Many of the

handmade blankets will be donated to critically ill children through Project Linus.  Others will be donated to the Warm Up

America program and other worthy causes.
(OPTIONAL ADDITION: Our local chapter will be donating their blankets to

foster children in _____ County- or whoever your recipients are.
)  "We hope the children who receive these blankets will

feel the love that was put into their creation.  You do not even need to know how to sew or knit or crochet to participate.  Fleece

blankets can be made simply by cutting fleece to any blanket size and curling or knotting fringe.  Blankets are needed in all sizes

from newborn size to adult size.  Our purpose is to provide these children with something that can be theirs forever- something

that will feel like a warm comforting hug whenever they need it.  Together, with the help of those who join us, we can make a

difference in the lives of many children." said
(Your Name, H.E.A.R.T.S. participant/group leader/etc. - or use info above)

Warmth will spread across the country as individuals, families, and groups donate their special handcrafts to worthy causes.

For example, Project Linus and Warm Up America are both non-profit, volunteer driven organizations that exist for the purpose

of providing handmade blankets to those in need.   Project Linus began as an effort to offer love and security to seriously ill and

traumatized children through gifts of handmade blankets.  Since their start in 1995, Project Linus has collected and donated

over 1,085,866 blankets.  In addition, blankets will also be provided to the homeless through Warm Up America- an organization

providing warm hand-knit and crotched blankets to those in need since 1991.

H.E.A.R.T.S. encourages everyone in the community to join in this effort.  They stress that whether you are an individual, a family,

or an organization- every piece donated, from a small crocheted square to a handmade quilt, makes a difference in someone's

life.  To learn more about this and other H.E.A.R.T.S. projects, please visit the website at http://www.h-e-a-r-t-s.org
