H.E.A.R.T.S.
Homeschoolers Educating, Assisting, & Reaching-out Through Service
To participate in the Winter Warmth theme you can:
1) Contact your local domestic violence shelter or your local homeless shelter (please click to use  links
to find a local shelter if you are not aware of any in your location) to determine whether they are in need
of hats, scarves, mitten, gloves, etc.  - also remember to inquire whether they only accept new and/or
handmade - or whether they accept used (recycled) donations - and whether the donations should be
gift wrapped.  OR you can contribute your contributions to the charities listed below.  You can ship your
new and/or handmade adult size contributions to Hats 4 the Homeless (address below) or you can ship
new or handmade *or* 'recycled' contributions to Appalachian Outreach (address below.)

2) Please include a note identifying yourself as a participant in H.E.A.R.T.S.  - for example:

"We hope our warm wishes~and hats, scarves, and mittens, will help to warm you this winter.  From a
Homeschooling Family with H.E.A.R.T.S.
(Homeschoolers Educating, Assisting, & Reaching-out Through Service)"

3) Please submit a press release (please see bottom of page for prepared press release) the first week
in September (or as near that date as possible.)  Please send your donations the last week in
September or the first week in October.  If you miss a press release or project submission date - please
submit as soon as possible.  If you are able to, it would be great to also submit a "wrap-up" press
release after you have completed your project as well.  - [If you compose a "wrap-up" press release for
any project we would be grateful if you would submit a copy to be posted to the project website for use
by other participants.]

Let's join together to make a difference!

HOMESCHOOLERS WITH H.E.A.R.T.S.

Nationwide, homeschoolers consistently become involved in community outreach as part of their daily

learning.  The organization H.E.A.R.T.S. (Homeschoolers Educating, Assisting, & Reaching-out Through

Service) was recently created in an effort to capitalize on this volunteer spirit by coordinating efforts -

reaching beyond the barriers of religion, politics, educational philosophy, and distance.  Hats for the

Homeless, as well as other national and local charity programs, will benefit from the current project, "Winter

Warmth", which will provide hats, gloves, socks, scarves, and other winter apparel to those in need.

The homeschooling community would like to invite everyone to join with them in this and in future projects.

More information about the Winter Warmth project, as well as future projects, can be obtained from the

H.E.A.R.T.S. website at http://www.h-e-a-r-t-s.org.  H.E.A.R.T.S. is sponsored by the American Homeschool

Association, Unschoolers Network, and the Alliance of Home Educators among other supporters.
